Why I like to work in a coffee shop

“What's the WiFi password?”

You were taught that a coffee shop was the place to air your political opinion without being arrested. It wasn't hard to imagine intellectuals conversing over a cup of cappuccino. Paris would come to mind, a romantic image that elevated the City of Lights to fame. Nowadays, coffee shops would be filled with young professionals who hardly interact with each other unless they have a business matter to settle.

A coffee shop hardly changed its image through the centuries. This would be the reason for the proliferation of Starbucks and the gentrification of places where coffee shops would be seen. This could be a hot topic, a rather poor aspect of urban planning. But recent years saw the rise of freelance individuals. If they don't want to turn their home into an office space, then they could head to the nearest coffee shop. And the manager would be their colleague of sort.

Here are five reasons to start your morning at the coffee shop:

A shop with a view, which will appeal to the senses. The happenings outside the coffee shop would distract you, but it won't hamper you from the tasks you must do (for the day). Many need something to stimulate them, which will enable them to perform better. And most will rely on a visual. (It can be a postcard, it may be a photograph.) It's not a problem in a coffee shop. In fact, you can write a short story about it. (No kidding.) However, you must think twice if the tasks require utmost concentration. You might turn out to be an aspiring author.

You need human interaction, and you prefer an informal setting. Not that you don't like the office, where you didn't leave on a good note. There were many things to do, and there were days when it was getting to you. There weren't many chances of getting to know your former colleagues. (It might be you, as you sensed their lack of eagerness to know you as well.) Whatever the reason, you rather put it behind. And you would look at your current companions. They were glued to the computer screens. It would be up to you to think of a good opening line.

A coffee shop had always been a mark of sophistication. It sounded good, and you couldn't think of one thing that would keep you from a coffee shop. If this would inspire you to perform well, then you don't need to think twice.

You would be a part of a community. You would be no different from the Beat Generation, who used to hang out at New York's coffee shops. As a matter of fact, the coffee shop could pique your curiosity. You might ask the manager about a creative group, which you like to meet. The members may share your interest. You can look forward to them after you're done with work. This would be cool.

Caffeine will keep you going, and going. You're not the Energizer Bunny, but you don't want be drowsy during your so-called working hours.
