Stand up or sit down?

What do Winston Churchill, Leonardo da Vinci, and Benjamin Franklin have in common? They're famous figures, which is pretty obvious. They stood up at work, and they would recommend it to anyone. You frown, as you can't imagine crouching in front of the computer screen, standing up.

Doctors warned us about the danger of a sedentary lifestyle. It's possible that we can spend one third of our life sitting down. Unless you keep an eye on your food intake, then this can cause serious health problems. Overweight, which is due to lack of physical activity, can lead to illnesses linked to diabetes. It can be fatal as well. (A heart attack, in case you haven't figured it out.) Don't think that companies haven't adopted the sit down, stand up policy. Some did try, where some employees admitted that standing up wasn't better at all. Which is which? Perhaps both.

If you're young, without thinking about the consequences of your actions, then consider it as an investment. This habit can benefit you during old age (unless you've been traveling on the road for years). A break in the monotony can make you more productive. You should know, but you're unaware of it. (There are many things to do in the workplace.) If your employer hasn't thought of it, then try to adapt the sit down, stand up routine. You won't distract anyone (unless you've done it, one too many, in an hour or two). Here are some suggestions:

Get up every hour. It seems silly at first, but it's not. You can get a cup of coffee on your first, talk to a colleague on the second, go to the restroom on the third, and so on. Sitting for several hours won't be good for your back. The monotony can affect your performance, which your boss won't like at all.

If you have suggestions, then don't keep them to yourself. You opt to walk a bit farther before reaching the restroom. You prefer to let someone deliver your mail to you. (You don't like too many e-mails, as it takes some time to delete them.) And your colleagues can go to your workplace if they have something to tell you. (And vice versa.) There are other possibilities, which won't take you long to guess.

Walk. If your place is not far from the office, then stick to walking. It will keep you slim, it will also save you money. Some can't let go of convenience, which is understandable. But look ahead. Pay close attention to your health.

Stretch if you must. Your colleagues might be amused if they see you stretching your legs and torso. Being stationary for a period of time is not good at all. Stress might make you sick.

Stand if you feel like it. Your boss won't be upset if you do it more than once.

If you have other suggestions, then don't hesitate to tell us. And stand up if you've been in front of the computer screen for too long.
