Your questions in work and career are answered here

What if you're not the best candidate for the job? There are many ways to look at it. You have enough work experience, but you're thinking about a slightly lower grade position. There's another area, where you want to learn the ropes. If this will make you better in the field, then go for it. On the other hand, if you don't meet the requirements, then make sure that your resume will highlight career achievements. It must match the skills that the company is looking for. This is connected to the next question.

To fib or not to fib? This is rather a tough question to answer. If you happen to lean towards print media, then you're aware that a catchy headline will lure readers. And it doesn't have to be accurate. Not a few will insist that there's no place for deception in journalism. It's still a business. It will be up to writers to think of the right approach to the story. (And it will be embellished with an attentive headline.) If it's another field, then think of the consequences. If you'll be hired for the position, then you don't want this to haunt you several months after that interview. It might cost you the job, if not your (professional) reputation.

How can I be influential at work? If you're thinking of your boss, then you must give an assurance that the risk of failure will be low. It will mean concrete details. If you have a project in mind, then you might consider colleagues whom your boss knows a great deal. And you happen to see similarities when it comes to experience. Tell your boss about it. Keep in mind that this is about trust. Moreover, your boss must be confident of what you're about to do. If this will be about colleagues, then the first step will be to make them like you. And the rest will follow. It seems easier said than done, but it's tricky than it seems to be. How you deal with people will come into play. Your best traits, as well as your not-so-good ones, will be put to the test. It also applies to (corporate) partners.

Did I miss my chance to have a fulfilling career? This might take years. Remember that everyone has the same opportunities. You're not competing against your colleague, as you are solely responsible for how your career will turn out. Rest if you must, but try to make the most out of your time. If there's a need to put too much work (to achieve the task), then do it. And don't play the blame game later on.

How can Facebook help me get a job? It will depend on how you're savvy in social media. Connect to people who are part of your chosen field. Pay attention to the privacy settings, as you must figure out which posts can be seen by the public. (And your friend can see your photos. There should be no one else. it's rather embarrassing, then delete it.) You can also consider Twitter, where you can follow those who have been in the field for some time. There's a certainty that you'll receive some news, which might lead to a job opening.

If you have other questions on work and career, then don't hesitate to tell us. You might pass up an opportunity.
