Is a six-hour workday right for you?

You must be stressed out in the workplace if you haven't heard of this latest news. America is about to adopt what the Europeans have been doing for years. Mediterranean diet, you would ask. Of course not. It's rather working six-hour days on an eight-hour salary. You became excited, if not restless. It might be the best news you've heard in months, if not years. But you wonder. Is it the right one for you?

Let's examine the pros and cons. Here are the pros:

If you have too many interests, then this schedule would fit you. Some people rather want to be too busy, which would baffle you. There's always a way if you want it. You look at it differently, though. Most people want to distract themselves. It's the only way to be productive in the workplace, not to mention the regret. (Unless you truly love your job, then you don't want to look back and regret the things that you should have done in the past. But this is another matter.) Let's be clear, though. Spending a lot of time on your interests doesn't mean you're considering other career options. (Joining a reality TV competition doesn't count. "The Voice", for instance.) You don't want to think about work a lot, as it might lead to a burnout.

Your body may not be accustomed to longer working hours. There are some days when you look forward to work, while there are other days that you need to work. And there are many instances when it seemed like a long day. Perhaps an hour (or two) off your working hours would be the solution.

You'd rather not plan for your next holiday. There's nothing wrong if you opt to save as much money as you can. In fact, it's the sensible thing to do. Shorter working hours could help you achieve this goal.

Here are the cons:

You get bored easily. You're the type of person that needs to do something. If you happen to be someone who doesn't have many interests, then there might be a problem. Shorter working hours could be appealing, but what can you do during your free time? The problem is compounded if you don't fancy watching TV shows. (And not all days feature a football game.) You rather get busy.

There are many things to do in the workplace. Unless you're the energetic type of person, then you'll have a huge problem. Time management will be a challenge, if not an issue. Last but not the least, you might yearn for a weekend on a Monday morning. Not a good sign.

You live by your salary. This is a serious issue, as it exposes your lack of financial literacy. It's your money and you have the right to spend it on whatever you want, but save for the rainy day. Furthermore, you must have long-term goals. Have you considered having your own place? Is it a house or a condo? How about a car? Things will be different if you settle down. It might be better to look ahead.
