If it's your first time

If it's your first time to look for a job, then you must pay attention to the following things. An online search must include keywords relating to your field. Instead of joking about your holiday photos on Facebook, this can be a good opportunity to put social media to good use. Make sure you wouldn't look too formal in your own profile. Try to be interactive. And delete any posts (or photos) that may give you an unfavorable impression.

If it's your first time to write a resume, then you should know that one page can be good enough. Then again, you might not be the only applicant. And you must stand out. Two pages will do, which highlight your (career) achievements. It must be related to the skills that your prospective employer is looking for. If it doesn't match at all, then try to look for a common ground. Imagine the bigger picture, and how you'll end up as an asset (to the company). A research is required here, and you must rehearse for it. A member of a family (or your friend) can assist you, even provide you with constructive criticism. And you must not take it hard.

If it's your first time for an interview, then don't repeat the information you've emphasized in your resume. The interviewer read it. Remember that this is a meeting between the employer and an applicant. The first impression can make a difference, but you must say something. Your resume is a summary, so the interview is your chance to elaborate on it. This won't take long. Don't try too hard to impress the interviewer. Be your (professional) self, and let your work experience do the talking.

If it's your first time to be turned down, then you must not dwell on it. Indulge in your hobbies. Talk to your friends. Do anything to forget about it. (Sleeping can be an option.) And then try again. Persistence is a virtue.

If it's your first time to be hired, then don't think it's not a big deal. You should celebrate it with your family. Don't hesitate to tell the good news to your friends. When the euphoria is over, then you must prepare for your first day.

If it's your first day in the office, then try to calm yourself. It's natural to be nervous, but it's not different from your first day in the university. Acquaint with your colleagues, even familiarize with the workplace. And don't forget that sense of urgency.

If it's your first time to meet your boss, then don't panic. There's no reason to be uncomfortable in his (or her) presence. You'll be fine, as long as you'll do your best.

If it's your first time to feel the work-related stress, then there are many ways to deal with it. Stand up and walk away from your desk. You might need a drink. If you don't feel like getting up, then don't look at the computer screen. Close your eyes and take deep breaths. It might help to put a souvenir item on your desk, which will remind you of your past holiday(s). If you haven't been going places, then Google your favorite destination(s).

If it's your first time to be a regular employee, then treat yourself. You work hard for it, so pat yourself on the back. And it may dawn on you that you attended your last party many moons ago.

If it's another milestone, then you must have another round of celebration. One year (in the workplace) is something else. This may be a good chance to meet your colleagues in an informal setting. You might keep in touch with them.
