How to be a charismatic authority

If you feel depressed after watching a political debate, then you're not the only one. It doesn't mean that there's no hope for this great country of ours, but it's something else. It would seem that there's lack of charisma. Before you launch into another Trump joke, ask yourself about charismatic authority. Have you known such a person? You're truly lucky if your answer is in the affirmative. Otherwise, you can ask around.

Some people have charisma, while others don't. It won't be the end of the world for the latter, as you can be a charismatic figure. Think of how people look up at you, even believe in every word you say. There will be difficulty in managing your network. As far as your career is concerned, the sky is the limit. And you'll be tempted to seek a post in the White House. But let's narrow it down. Charisma can do wonders in the workplace. Setting goals won't be daunting at all. Expect a harmonious relationship. Nothing will ever go wrong, and it can last for years.

You don't have to be the boss, as anyone (in the office) can learn a few things about charismatic authority. Here are some tips:

Don't be afraid to ask. Get to know the people you'll work with. Ask them about their (working) habits, even their aspirations. Know their interests. The last one isn't personal information, as this will enable you to find common ground with them. And these facts will give you some ideas on what to expect from them. If you happen to be the boss, then you can figure out how to manage the office.

Think out of the box. There's an unspoken rule on professionalism, but conformity is another thing. You can't be a charismatic authority by playing by the rules. There's nothing wrong in breaking the ice now and then, attempting to show your lighter side. (You can also do it with your wacky personality, but let's skip the Gothic aspects.) Don't surprise your colleagues by donning a casual attire. (If you'll go on a holiday, then you might miss your backpacking days. It will be fine.) The purpose here is to pique their interest, even excite them. And they'll be engaged in it. They'll hang on your words, which is a good sign.

Try to keep a distance. Not that you're aloof, but there should be a mysterious aspect to your personality. Get used to the interest, if not the adulation. (It doesn't happen often, but it does occur now and then.) It won't be difficult to win their trust.

Let's seek adventure. This is not establishing travel goals, but it can bring you closer to each other. It can mean several things. Trusting your colleagues, even their (working) habits are different than yours. (It's the results that count the most.) You have to be sharp, even ahead of your colleagues. You must be a part of their journey (and nothing else). Last but not the least, boredom can disenchant anyone. If it happens, then the end is not far away.

What appeals to you the most? The answer(s) can make you jump on a single bound. But you're not the Man of Steel.
