Expect These Interview Questions

A job interview will determine whether you fit in the company you're applying for. From a company's perspective, it means looking for the right people. You wonder what it means. Let's assess the questions commonly asked during the interview. Have a look:

Tell us about yourself? Your answer must be a few minutes long. It's important to go through your resume, and make sure that your skills are the one that the interviewer has in mind. Specify tasks you done in the past, which can make you stand out. Pay attention to the facial expression and body language of the interviewer. This may be hard to do, but this is where your instinct plays a part. And it will be an important one. Don't give more information than what the interviewer likes to hear.

What are your strengths/weaknesses? As far as your strengths are concerned, it's important not to exaggerate it. A little modesty will do. (In case you'll be hired, the interviewer might be reminded of it. Not a good start to a new job.) Avoid generalizations as well. (A perfectionist won't impress the interviewer. Being a workaholic can have negative connotations.) Your expertise can be an asset to the company (you're applying for). Elaborate on it, but don't go overboard. (You might be perceived as overqualified.) As for your weaknesses, keep in mind that the interviewer wants to know how you deal with it. This will show when there are many things to do in the workplace. Get to know the company you're applying for, which will give you an idea on what to talk about. But don't sound too rehearsed.

Why do you want this job? It's not hard as it seems. Look at the company's vision. Think how your skills can help in making it happen. Don't be carried away (during the interview), as too much is not a good thing.

Where would you like to be in the next five years? This will reveal your goals, but it's more of a test of your loyalty. You want the best for yourself, but the company may not be the right place for you.

What do you like most/least about your last job? This one will determine how will you get along with your new colleagues. Your personality will be assessed here. Unpleasant incident can happen in any place. The office is not an exception. Look at the good side. Try to generalize the situation.

There'll be other questions to be asked, but no need to be nervous about it. As long as you believe in your abilities, then there's no reason not to feel good about your chances. Get a good night's sleep. Good luck!
