Carbs are fine: How to handle office diet bore

Perhaps weight loss should be included in your resume. You should know better after keeping an eye on your food intake during your few years at the university. Your housemates looked at you unkindly after you turned down their invitation of watching football (with beer on hand). And how many excuses you gave to your coursemates. (You weren't an introvert by nature, but you wanted to keep your slim figure. No love handles next summer.) You're about to look for a job. It will be your first, which makes you nervous.

It's not about wanting to do well during your first month. It's rather how to deal with office diet bore. Your sister wasn't much help after she told you about her experience. (She hated herself after she saw her colleagues eating salad for lunch. And nothing else. This made her dreaded the mirror.) You're getting too far ahead, though.

You believe in your abilities, and the skills that will make you stand out. You like your chances during the job interview. Food intake is the last thing to think about (during the working hours). Here are the other things to remember:

Kit Kat is fine. Promise. There's some truth to the TV ad. (Have a break. Have a Kit Kat.) Don't be guilty about a chocolate bar during the break. In fact, you should reward yourself for the hard work. Nothing beats the great feeling of doing all the tasks (required for the day, if not the week). But even the energetic ones will be dead tired before the shift ends. Don't worry about the extra calories, which can beat stress.

No need to join the bandwagon. Everyone in the office is talking about cobb salad and its benefits. You rather have tiny slices of chicken. You've been a meat consumer all your life, and you don't see yourself turning into a vegan in the near future. (You don't have any aspirations to appear in front of the TV camera, which can be unkind to those with love handles. But you recall your housemates talking about it. They have a beer on hand.) It's OK to munch on burger on a Friday, even pizza the following week. You might make new friends after sharing a few slices. Expect some to turn you down, but don't take it against them.

Stick to the schedule. You've seen how your parents valued their work ethics, but they worked to live. They made sure they were there for you at nights, even going out on certain weekends. And you still reminisced your summer holiday. (The last one happened many moons ago. You would wonder the next one.) As long you have ample time for rest, on top of other things, then you'll be fine.

You feel better for a moment until you get the jitters. Again. Food might not help you on this one. Time for a pep talk.
