10 ways to beat the heatwave

Your colleagues were surprised at how you became unreasonable the other day. You didn't offer any explanation, as you might tell them about your irritability last week. This could give them an impression that you were unpleasant (and you haven't made it past your first year in the workplace). Blame it on the heatwave.

A heatwave is taking place whenever the maximum temperature would exceed the average by 5°C for more than five consecutive days. This is a result of high pressure developing across your area. (If you haven't got a clue, then a low pressure would mean precipitation. It could lead to a weather disturbance.) This won't be the first time you experienced such a phenomenon, but you were a student back then. And you were lazy to get out of the house during this time of the year. Alas, those days were gone.

How would you beat the heatwave? You thought of ten ways to do it:

Have a cool bath. There won't be a better way to start the day.

Avoid leather as much as possible. If this is what you wear at the office, then deal with it. Not bad as you think it is.

Work could be the best therapy. If you don't want to be reminded of it, then looked at your workplace. There could be many tasks to accomplish. You would be swamped with it, such that you won't remember the time. Don't forget to take a break. This would lead to the next item.

Drink. It must be cold water, if not an iced juice. However, you craved for a cold bottle of beer. And you became uneasy (after hearing voices in your head). Drink me. Be patient. Do it on a Friday night.

Go home after work. Your colleague invited you to a midweek boozing. You were about to grin at him (and accept his invitation), but you recalled the humid day. It won't be the best time to do such a thing. You could squeeze yourself out of this peer pressure by giving a fib. (Your parent were expecting you.) But promise that you would be there next time. And it must happen on a Friday.

Count your blessing. You didn't end up in the middle of the Sahara Desert. And there was nothing wrong about the air conditioning. Besides, you don't want to shovel the snow too soon.

Don't let the insects get you down. Summer is that time of the year when your little friends will come out from nowhere. And they will disturb you (more than once). Make sure you have an insect repellent not far away. Check if the workplace is cool enough. (You won't notice a mosquito.) Clean your surrounding.

Carry a small bottle of talc. Chaffing is a hideous side effect of hot conditions, and it can be unbearable at times. Talc will save the day.

Take a look at your favorite destinations. The volcanic landscape in Iceland. An Arctic cruise. The snow-capped Rockies. You can Google it, but don't wish for a snowfall the week after next.

If you can't beat it, then take a dip. There might be a beach not far from where you live. Plan a weekend trip. Don't forget to bring a sunscreen.
