How to Write the Perfect Resume

Finding the perfect job vacancy takes time but that does not mean that you are guaranteed to get it. The first thing that any employer will see is your resume and cover letter. These need to be perfect to get you through that first round and gain an interview – where you can go into more detail and show off your skills. So, how do you write the perfect resume?

Include a Personal Statement

You will need a personal statement at the start of your resume. This should highlight the type of person that you are and how you will benefit the company. If you have the ability to work as part of a team, consider how that will help the business that you are applying for a job with. If you say that you have the ability to remain motivated, then think about how that will benefit the company.

Chronological or Skills

When it comes to the previous employment section, you will need to determine whether you should place everything in chronological order or whether you should include everything through your skills that benefit the company. This depends on whether you have gaps in your employment – employers do not want to see gaps unless there is a very good reason! One gap of three months because you were travelling the world will be perfect since you will have picked up skills along the way, but a lot of gaps because you were out of employment shows that you are not great at keeping a job or finding work.

Proofread Everything!

The worst thing that you can do is hand in a resume that is full of grammatical and spelling errors. Take the time to proofread everything that you have written and fix all problems; if in doubt, have someone else look over it first to make sure there are no silly little errors along the way.
