Who says ‘you can’t judge a book by its cover?” Dressing for success can make a job interview a memorable one.
Of course there are actually two ways to be remembered during a job interview. And one of them certainly isn’t for wearing a nose piercing, purple high tops and black leather pants. Then again, it might be considered memorable, but it would soon be forgotten as far as being hired for the job is concerned.
Considering the competition in today’s job market, it would be beneficial for anyone going on an interview to consider the manner in which they dress. The way in which you dress when you walk into an interview will not only set the tone for the entire interview, but it is certain to leave a lasting impression on the mind of your prospective employer. Studies have shown that the image you portray through your business attire has become one of the most powerful non-communicative messages you can send to a prospective employer.
It is undeniable the manner in which you dress for an interview has now become as important as your resume itself. We live in a competitive world and in today’s workforce you want to utilize every opportunity to improve your chances at being the one who is hired for that job you would just love to get.  Although some prospective employers would certainly never admit it, they place a great deal of importance on the manner in which a job candidate dresses for an interview. Does that mean you should go out and buy a new wardrobe? Absolutely not, especially when your financial situation might not make it feasible.  However, it would be wise to always have a least one professional outfit in your closet to wear when attending an interview. It goes without saying you will always want to dress your best, as well as appropriately, giving yourself the best possible chance for getting hired.
There are many tips that can help you get edge on being chosen from a large pool of applicants all vying for the same job. First and foremost, you will want to dress more conservatively, regardless of the dress attire at the company or workplace you are applying to. The ‘rule of thumb’ for interview attire seems to be, it is far better to over-dress than under-dress. A dark-colored suit and tie is appropriate for men and a dress, suit or skirt with a blouse is customary, professional attire for a woman who is going to an interview. Accessories should also be kept to a minimum. Shoes should be conservative, clean and comfortable.
If you keep in mind that your interview attire will make a lasting first impression, you should have no difficulty when choosing the proper clothing. Just remember, you can always put your best foot forward, even if it isn’t in a designer shoe.
