CVs writing tips for students who want a part time job

Finding a part-time job when you are a student isn't easy – you may have limits on the amount of hours you can work, and certainly your work will have to revolve around school hours. The competition out there is fierce: recent studies have shown that there can be hundreds of applications for a single position, so making sure that your CV is in tip-top shape is extremely important if you are to be in with a chance of getting a job.

First of all, make sure that you actually have a CV. Even if this is your first job and you have only a few formal qualifications, you still need to supply a CV. Remember that what you give to your employer this time is not the definitive version that you will use when you get a full-time job; you will be crafting and re-working your CV for many years to come, so don't worry about not having it completely perfect. Make sure that you include your personal qualities and hobbies if you have little experience of the workplace. Some employers will refuse you the position because of lack of experience, but many more are willing and eager to take on younger workers, so don't feel disheartened by not having experience.

Make sure that on your CV you have up-to-date contact information, including your phone number (most youngers will use their mobile number, which is fine), home address and email address. To make your CV look more professional, align the contact information to the top-right hand side of your page.

An absolute necessity when it comes to writing a CV is your educational details. As you are still a student, you will want to include the qualifications that you are hoping to achieve as well as those that you have already achieved. Make sure that it's clear that you are still studying, as that may make employers more flexible when it comes to working hours. Extra skills that you have also picked up, such as your typing speed and any additional languages you can speak, should be included – this is your chance to make a first impression, so make sure it's a good one.
